Introduction
As corporate activities quickly change and become more complex, there has been a growing demand in the accounting and taxation sector that can identify and analyze the conditions of a company at a glance. Thus, many universities have been strengthening accounting education and Yeungnam University also newly established the Department of Accounting and Taxation in 2015 by reflecting the social needs for human resources in the accounting and taxation sectors.
The goal of this department is to foster accounting and taxation experts with a challenging spirit and practical field capacities, and its three sub-goals are as shown below.
(1) Improving challenging spirit
According to accounting education demand surveys, companies prefer human resources with knowledge on accounting, and employees with knowledge on accounting have higher overall understanding on corporate management activities. But for such accounting knowledge to shed light in various sectors, a challenging spirit that goes beyond analyzing current data, but pioneers into the future and solves problems is needed. Therefore, the goal of the Department of Accounting and Taxation is to improve challenging spirits.
(2) Improving practical field capacities
According to accounting education demand surveys, it was found that there was quite a big gap between college accounting education and actual accounting work. In order to overcome this, adjunct professors who also work in the accounting field and experts with rich practical experiences will be actively utilized in the curricular and extracurricular courses.
(3) Fostering accounting and taxation experts
The basic goal of this department is to foster experts with fundamental knowledge in accounting and taxation fitting the majors of the Department of Accounting and Taxation.
Job Fields
Certified Public Accountant, Tax Accountant
Students of this department can earn their CPA and CTA license and become a certified public accountant or licensed tax accountant. Professors in the Department of Accounting and Taxation are in charge of the in-school CPA prep class, and by sharing the Chunma Honors School accountant track and curriculum program, CPAs are being fostered.
Public Company Employment
Students in this department can find employment in public companies. 23 public institutes will be moving to the Daegu-Gyeongbuk area (11 to the Daegu Innovation City and 12 to the Gimcheon Innovation City) and these institutes are highly interested in local human resources. Accordingly, this department selects public institutes to fit the abilities and preferences of students, and operates a public corporation prep class to support students in finding employment at public companies.
Employment at Large Conglomerates
Students of this department can find employment at large conglomerates. The Department of Accounting and Taxation supports employment at large conglomerates by improving language abilities using exchange student programs and by acquiring licenses related to accounting and taxation.

- This course provides an introduction to accounting within the context of business and business decision. The audience will explore accounting information’s role in the decisions marking process, and learn how to use various types of accounting information found in financial statements and annual reports. Understanding how accounting information can be used to make better business decisions will benefit all students, regardless of their major course of study or chosen career.
1- 1 - SEMINAR FOR ACADEMIC LIFE
- 1. Summary of the course This course is to assist university freshmen in CRM designing to adapt university life well through the instruction and counselling of supervising professor. (This course is composed of self analysis, personality type test, career research, instruction for the success of university life, career plan and direction setting, CRM designing method and CRM designing. The course should be teaching in classes of the students by supervising professor.) 2. Course objectives This course is to motivate the students before the mid term exam and provide students with self analysis, personality type test (MBTI or TCI) and career research (YAT test). Also, this course shall has a plan to instruct the students to enhance the efficiency of university life through career and time management. In addition, this course is to make a chance for the students to have practical assistance to university life by providing study method, report designing strategy and the information on academic system and various kinds of internal programs of the university. After the mid term exam, the students will be instructed to set the direction of career designing through continuous counselling of supervising professor and the students will be able to establish CRM designing and execution plan.
1- 1 - SOFTWARE AND AI
- Software and AI (Artificial Intelligence) course aims to educate the basic concepts of software and computational thinking to use them in various applications. It allows students of various majors to experience the core technologies of the 4th industrial revolution, such as big data, machine learning, and AI. It also introduces various applications of AI so that students can easily apply these technologies to their field of study. This course classifies the lecture types into three categories, and adjust the lecture difficulty according to the student's academic ability.
1- 1 - UNDERSTANDING IN BUSINESS MANAGEMENT
- The corporations in 21st century have been severely challenged by the accelerated changes in local and global business environments complicated with diverse issues from the political, economical, socio-cultural, and environmental aspects. The main reason of studying management is contributing to suggestion of directions and principles for solving diverse problematic phenomena faced in management practices and for further development of our society. The purpose of this subject is to teach students the overall management concepts and theories so that they could understand many management issues and deal with effective managerial decision making in management practices.
1- 1 - ACCOUNTING AND SOCIETY
- The purpose of this course is to introduce basic content in all areas of accounting (financial accounting, management accounting, tax accounting, audit, financial statement analysis, etc.). Therefore, this course is expected to provide useful knowledge to increase the overall understanding of accounting and provide basic knowledge for taking more advanced accounting courses in the future.
1- 2 - SOCIAL CONTRIBUTION AND SERVICE
- This course is to cultivate community sense as members of society and the global village for students in order to develop the basic knowledge required as global citizens. Especially, this course is to foster the spirit of cooperation, sharing, service, and creativity and study the social contribution and leadership to solving the challenges the global community faces. As a liberal arts course, it is centered to nurture a leader having the global capability to contribute to community development through learning the knowledge and the case on the value & logic of social responsibility focused on environmental preservation, social contribution, and good governance(ESG). This course aims to foster a generous mind, learn knowledge and technology and build the capacity to contribute to building a society towards a safer and happier world through the study of theory and practice.
1- 2 - SPECIALIZED ACADEMIC ENGLISH
- The aim of the course is to help students increase their fluency and accuracy in English. The course will be co-taught by Korean and Native English instructors. Korean instructors will provide students with an opportunity to practice English structure, vocabulary, and expressions, and students will be encouraged to enhance their verbal skills by actively participating in classroom activities. Students will further practice expressing themselves in English with native English instructors.
1- 2 - UNDERSTANDING THE PRINCIPLES OF ECONOMICS
- By introducing students to the very basic economic principles, this course purpose to enhance student's ability analyze and synthetically understand the mode of human behavior in its economic aspects as well as the economic system. Detailed subjects to be dealt with in this course are as follows : the native and purpose of economics, the theory of demand and supply and its applications, the theory of consumers’and firms’behavior, the theory of competitive markets, monopoly, monopolistic competition, and oligopoly, etc.
1- 2 - ACCOUNTING AND PYTHON
- Firms are increasingly adopting computerization into their processes, with accounting systems leading the change. Computing intelligence and programming are no longer skills that are exclusively needed for computer engineers. Professionals in the field of accounting must also learn computer programming skills. This course is designed to provide an introduction to statistics and programming specific to accounting, using Python programming language.
1- 2 - PRINCIPLES OF ACCOUNTING
- Accounting area can be divided into financial accounting, management accounting, taxation and auditing. Among them, this class is the basic step of the financial accounting and the first course for student to learn accounting. Before entering this class, students must have taken the introduction of financial accounting. This deals with the latter half of the text book (IFRS principles of accounting). If you learn the basic level of financial accounting more thoroughly, you need to take excise of introduction of financial accounting class.

- The purpose of this course is to provide an opportunity to organize and back up financial accounting after accounting principles by learning the general contents of financial accounting using both English and Korean. 2- 1 - UNDERSTANDING OF HR AND ORGANIZATIONAL SYSTEM
- This course provides a fundamental understanding of the role of marketing in business activities. Topics include concepts of marketing, marketing environment, buyer behavior, market segmentation, marketing mix variables, and extended marketing.
2- 1 - COST ACCOUNTING
- This course deals with the basic concepts of the cost accounting which uses the resources to achieve a certain objective of an entity. This course covers a traditional cost accounting concepts and new procedured issues in the use of cost information for managers.
2- 1 - FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING I
- The subjects of intermediate accounting are divided into three parts such as Intermediate(1), Intermediate(2) and Intermediate(3). Students are encouraged to follow the recommended sequence. 2- 1 - INTRODUCTION OF TAX LAW
- The focus of this course is fundamentals of the national tax law, and how it influences the legal rights and acts of taxpayers. Topics covered include the interpretation of the basic law for national taxes.
2- 1 - PRINCIPLES OF FINANCE
- This course introduces the students to selected problems and issues in financial management. The major topics include (1) business objectives, (2) the use of financial statements and financial ratio models as analytical control tools, (3) sources and uses of business funds, and (4) concepts of risk and rates of return.
2- 2 - PRINCIPLES OF MARKETING
- This course is an introductory overview of the management of the human resources in organizations. Topics include human resource decisions dealing with staffing, employee development, work-system rewards, and relations.
2- 2 - THEORY OF INVESTMENTS
- This course is concerned with the characteristics and analysis of individual securities, as well as with the theory and practice of optimally combining into portfolios.

3- 1 - PRACTICE OF PUBLIC FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS
- This course is a specialized financial lecture directly participated by the Korea Credit Guarantee Fund, Korea's leading policy financial institution, to foster future talent and develop local universities in Daegu and Gyeongbuk. The purpose of this course is to lecture basic and practical contents such as financial system structure, various policy financial systems for corporate financing, and accounting for small and medium enterprises. In addition, the Korea Credit Guarantee Fund headquarters located in Daegu Innovation City this course provides and motivates students through lectures and practical experiences in the Korea Credit Guarantee Fund headquarters.

4- 1 - ACCOUNTING FOR GOVERNMENT & NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION
- Central and local government has began to adopt accrual basis accounting since year 2009 and 2007 each. Furthermore, About five questions are released in CPA exam. Therefore, students learn basic government accounting concepts and skills of solving problems through the class.
4- 1 - BUSINESS ANALYSIS
- The goal of this course is to develop the student’s ability to use financial statement information and related disclosures to evaluate the underlying economics of a firm. And this course explores in greater depth financial reporting topics introduced in financial accounting and also examines additional topics not covered in that course. The viewpoint is that of the user of financial statements. To achieve this, we conduct an analysis using the listed companies’s past and current financial statements.
4- 1 - CORPORATE TAX ADJUSTMENT PRACTICE
- This course is to provide knowledge about the basic principles and operation of the generalized computerized accounting program used by companies to improve corporate tax adjustment practical skills. Specifically, students learn to combine theory of corporate tax accounting with computerized accounting software.
4- 1 - ETHICS IN ACCOUNTING
- This course is designed to familiarize students with ethical principles in general and how to apply them when faced with ethical dilemmas in their professional careers. The goal is to allow students to better recognize situations where ethical issues are involved and to better equip them to deal with these situations when they arise. For achieving those goals, students will be introduced the actual example related ethics in accounting and present their opinion.
4- 1 - PRODUCTION & OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT
- This course deals with the design, plan, operation and control in the manufacturing and service systems doing various value-added activities. In details, this course deals with the understanding of purchasing, supply chain and logistics process, process integration based on information sharing, transportation and freight system, some methodologies about production and distribution planning, and finally cooperation between companies and outsourcing strategies.
4- 1 - VENTURE PLANNING(CAPSTONE DESIGN)(2)
- This course is designed for the junior and senior level students in major of Economics both to understand theoretical knowledge and also to practice venture planning at the same time. With this course, focusing on the acquisition of various know-hows, knowledge&practical experiences in the real business field based on the understandings of systematic theories, students will have valuable insights and real opportunities to create venture.
4- 2 - ACCOUNTING AND DEEP LEARNING
- Deep learning refers to the use and development of computer systems where multiple layers of processing are used to extract progressively higher level features from data. (Google, 2021). Corporations of today are constantly performing complex transactions, increasing the necessity of deep learning. This course discusses the interaction between deep learning and accounting transactions.
4- 2 - BUSINESS MODEL AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP
- Entrepreneurship is the driving force of the world. The main purpose of this course is to develop business mind through training related entrepreneurship - activity, function, and action. For achieving goal of this course, students should perform several kind of simulation in entrepreneurial spirit area and present their work.
4- 2 - COMPANY LAW
- This course, as the basic company law, addresses the general rules of corporation and other forms of business organization And this course deal with negotiable instruments: bills of exchange, notes, and checks.

- This course is the subject that reflects the needs of the industry. In this course, check the important theory of financial accounting, tax accounting and cost management required by industry field.
